How to become a candidate?
Are you considering becoming a candidate? Great! On this page you can fing the instructions.
To become a candidate, you have three options:
A. Establish your own electoral association with a friend:
Find a friend who is a member of Loimu and is willing to co-sign the electoral association establishment form for individual members with you. Decide who will act as the agent of the electoral association and what the formal name of your electoral association will be. Fill out the electoral association establishment form for individual members by September 4, 2024.
The electoral association establishment form for individual members can be found here.
B. If you belong to a member association, contact your own member association and ask the association to act as the electoral association:
Member associations can directly act as electoral associations. The member association must fill out the electoral association establishment form for member associations, appoint an election agent for the electoral association, and decide on the formal name of the electoral association by September 4, 2024.
The electoral association establishment form for member associations can be found here.
C. Check our website to see if a suitable electoral association has already been notified to you by Loimu and contact the electoral association’s representative about your candidacy.
Notify the electoral association as early as possible!
The notification of the establishment of the electoral association should be done as early as possible. We are collecting information about established electoral associations, electoral alliances, and their representatives on our website so that members interested in candidacy can contact them.
The more diverse and numerous the candidates you have, the better the chances of receiving votes in the elections.
Gather candidates for your electoral association and submit the candidate list to Loimu
Now that you have established the electoral association, gather a comprehensive list of Loimu members from your workplace, hobby groups, student associations, member associations, etc., who are eligible candidates. All student members and full members who have joined Loimu by July 31, 2024, and are eligible to run as candidates.
The candidate list submission form can be found here
We will verify the eligibility of the candidates and send them additional information about candidacy, including a link where candidates can respond to the election questionnaire.
Shall we form an electoral alliance?
Once the electoral association is established, familiarize yourselves with other electoral associations and electoral alliances announced to Loimu. Is there a group you would like to form an electoral alliance with?
In Loimu’s elections, votes are counted using a proportional representation method. This means that the candidate who receives the most votes within each electoral association or electoral alliance receives the total number of votes obtained by the entire electoral association or electoral alliance. The candidate who receives the second most votes receives half of that, the third receives one-third, and so on. Joining an electoral alliance is therefore advantageous!
If you want your electoral association to form an electoral alliance with another electoral association or join an existing electoral alliance, please contact the contact person listed on the alliance’s website.
The list of electoral alliances and electoral associations can be found here.
The representative of your electoral association will arrange joining the electoral alliance with the representative of another electoral association / electoral alliance by completing the electoral alliance establishment notification form by September 4, 2024.
The electoral alliance establishment form can be found here.
